I recently reviewed my BasicMed papers done couple of years ago and saw that the Section 3 Item 22 “Anything else the physician, in his or her medical judgment, considers necessary” left unchecked by the doctor. Item 1-22 has a check mark. He checked and signed the declaration. To me it’s logical, the boxes were under the title “examined”, nothing else was necessary thus the “examined box” is not checked. Would FAA accept this logic? the regulation said “
Check each item specified during the examination”. What does “check” even mean here? check the boxes? check the condition? Should I ask FAA?

I'd not over think it. I would agree that if there were something else, the Doc would check it and then add the details. But since there was nothing else, that item was NOT done and therefore it was not checked off.

As long as the doc signs it, you’re good. The checkboxes are there for the physicians’s convenience.

Thanks for replying, emailed my local FSDO, an ASI replied that from the office perspective it is good and valid. But did not give me a definitive answer. They encouraged me to contact FAA Office of Aerospace Medicine for definitive answer. I think it’s good enough for me.

The office of aerospace medicine does not administer BasicMed, it’s a Flight standards program. You could email the question to [email protected] but I am fairly confident that you will get the same answer that I provided.

In the future... I would NOT email the FSDO. Fine if you go in and ask a question, preferably with just saying your first name when you introduce yourself.

99% of the the folks there will be fine. But there are too many stories of one rouge person that just wants to exert their power. Things may eventually work out AFTER a bunch of pain.

Or even a rogue person, regardless of blush.

So for the attestation that the doctor signs at the end, it doesn't matter if he leaves that checkbox blank?

Take a look at the instructions on page 7 of the form.... the doc is required to examine each item, and address conditions identified as medically appropriate, review, sign, and complete the info section.

Regarding the little checkbox next to the attestation under "Physican's Signature and Declaration" preceding the words "In accordance with...": Yes, the form is still valid even if the doc didn't check the box, provided the doc signed under "signature of physician who performed the exam".

The instructions don't mention checking the checkboxes so if they're left blank you're still okay.
