I recently had an aneurysm and the surgeon did a permanent repair (not a stent). I did not have a heart attack and post medical tests don’t show any coronary disease. I have 18 months left on my basic med certificate and I don’t see anything in the basic med requirements that would disqualify me from flying. Does anyone know if I can continue flying under my current basic med cert. Thanks

Aneurysm where? To what extent of impairment before repair?

Now that’s a question for the doctors on this forum.

I don't know the answer to your question. That said, putting on my amateur doctor and lawyer hats it would seem that your condition is not disqualifying under BasicMed. If I were in your position I would reach out to FAA Aeromedical for their opinion because that is what is going to matter. If you don't want to go that route then perhaps fly as a Sport Pilot?

Aneurysm: This is a localized, balloon-like bulge or widening in the wall of a blood and not considered coronary heart disease.

  • A cardiovascular condition, limited to a one-time special issuance for each diagnosis of the following:
    • Myocardial infarction;
    • Coronary heart disease that has required treatment;
    • Cardiac valve replacement; or
    • Heart replacement.

That's an aortic aneurysm per his other post. The crucial fact would be that the angiogram of the heart show no CAD. IF that study covers all 3 vessels, and the aneurysmectomy did not involve the valve, he's okay still on basic....

Those are literally, important "ands"....
