I've watched those. Great videos.

Ha, ha so the reason those guys have been able to make it look so easy is due to the thousands of botched landing outtakes that we never got to see before. :D

Not only that but in addition to lots of time, they are flying aircraft configured exactly for this type of flying.tailwheel, Good horsepower to weight, bush gear, etc. Ohio bush plane pilot videos are very impressive, especially the fellow in the rans courier.

 I would say that is accurate. Of course lots of the strips don't give you the opportunity to balk, but yes lots and lots of passes or at least a willingness to is what takes some of the risk out.

Also important...many of these pilots flying bush planes use nose high, power on approaches ( hanging it on the prop, slow way down, full flaps,) which can get the novice in big trouble. Many of them are also excellent mechanics and keep their engines in top shape and settings. Some of them also die doing these landings.

we don't advocate using the "hanging it on the prop" method, that kind of leaves you without options. There might be a time and place for that, but overall it is much safer to use a steep approach letting gravity do the heavy lifting. In fact our first video in the series describes our preferred method. There are certainly many ways to skin a cat, but this one works well and is safer than hanging it off the prop.

here is the video on that method:
