Bad News For Simmers

Given the rabid, almost unbelievably devoted following by legions of Flight Sim fans, I suspect that Microsoft could easily sell that division. I wonder why they closed it instead?
 
X-plane is much better anyway.

My guess is that ACES Studios will be rolled into other groups within MS.

I can't imagine them doing away with it entirely or handing it off to someone else...
 
Microsoft did say they were going to maintain the franchise.

One side benefit of the way the product has grown is that the source code is now very well documented. So it's not like they're going to have to call Bruce Artwick to explain how it works in the future. I expect that they'll resume development in the future.
 
I say it's a good thing. I'm sure MSFS won't just disappear, but hopefully this lull or delay until the next version is released will allow some other competitors (namely X-Plane) to gain some market share.

MSFS has dominated the market for too long, IMHO.

True, but the one thing Microsoft has still got is plenty of other developers.

Will the transition go well or will the new ones do as good a job? Who knows? But I think it's very likely we'll see a Flight Simulator "11" sometime in the next few years -- and it'll still have Microsoft's name on it.

I was ok until the remix, which has infested the portion of my brain the formerly housed what I believe were important events from my childhood. I’m not sure. Way to go man. You really should think things through a bit more before unleashing stuff like this. :nono:

Sorry... I should have included a disclaimer along the lines of, "CAUTION: Direct exposure will assuredly lead to brain damage and excess perspiration."
