The Texas State Fair has long been watched over by Big Tex.

50' tall and welcoming to one and all.

No more. Big Tex is Crispy Tex now.

Lightning strike? Arson? Accident?

Yahbut DMN got cheated out of their annual "taking down Big Tex article" this year. Who's going to compensate them for that?

It was (Spike predicts) his motor-mouth... or mouth-motor, the rig that makes his mouth move when he is "talking."

Tex will be back.

Lol, I guess nothing says :
Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth
....better than a lightning strike.

hope the grading curve is kindly, get to heaven with a 90.

As one CFI on Facebook said earlier...

Big Tex was a flamer. Who knew? ;)

(Now nobody to gettin' your panties in a bunch... It's a joke... Laugh.)

Well, the angle of the outstretched hand was a bit graceful, now that you mention it.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better...stronger...faster

Maybe he was using the recalled Banana Boat sunscreen.....

Big Tex went out in a "blaze of glory".Local news says fire started in his right boot. Too much Texas Hot Footin' maybe. To be replaced they say, many of us Texans walked under the shadow of the original all of our lives, so I tip my hat to the original "Big Tex".

The Big Tex statue, balloon, mobile, what-ever, is one of those things that has "always been there," in my mind. Like the twin towers for New Yorkers.
It will feel odd (sad) to not see it next time.

Well now wait a minute, the only thing dating back 60 years is the metal structure itself, which appears intact. Shouldn't be that big of a deal to re hang new clothes and a face and hands.
