Flew into Opa Locka FL (KOPF) the other day following a Boeing 707. I looked up on short final and he was on the go around. We heard him being vectored to rejoin the pattern. Then when parking we saw him taking off again.

Were they touch and go's or go arounds? Do jets even do T&Gs? I'm guessing it was just pattern practice work of some kind but not something I've seen before except around Dover AFB.

Lot's of odd aviation in south FL.

Maybe it was JT out doing some pattern work? Military transports do pattern work all the time but it's usually at a base. We used to have C-17s & 141s from CHS staying in the tower / radar pattern for hours at a time.

Sounds like a training exercise of some sort. I've also heard bizjets or other jets used on 135 doing practice approaches, etc. Might've been a 6-month 135 check.

I used to take my young boys to watch C5s do touch and goes at Ft Hood. You could stand near the approach end of the runway and get a real good look at the underside of the airplane, an impressive sight when its only a hundred feet or so above you.

KC-135s do lots of T&Gs near me. Phx has a ANG refueling wing and it appears they get their practice at Mesa-Gateway.

I've seen KC 135's do touch and go's in Bangor, ME...it's funny, some of them look like students in Cessna's or Piper's wing wagging down final and over flaring/ballooning...

I've done touch and go's in a King Air and we can do touch and go's in the Cessna Citation 500 series as long as we don't use reverse thrust.

Yes, jets occasionally do TnGs. I watched a charter 737 doing pattern work at Corpus Christie a few years ago.

Probably leaving the gear down in the pattern displaying a poor habit transfer.

In the late 1990s I was sitting in my office near the Moline airport (KMLI) and saw a Swiss Air 747 go past my window. When I saw it a second time, I drove over to the airport and saw this 747 doing multiple touch and goes on Rwy 27 (10,002 x 150) before heading back east, presumably to KORD. It was awesome to see.

I'm not quite sure why they picked Moline, Illinois, but I'm glad they did.

I've done touch and goes in DC-8's and DC-10's. The sim didn't have landing credit, so we loaded up in a jet and each pilot got his 3 landings (1 with an engine pulled back).

Yep, same here.

I was making fun of a poster who stated I had a "hazardous attitude" because I posted I had done touch and goes in everything up to transport jets.

There were KC-135s and a 747 doing T&G in Lincoln when I was there. Jesse and David see it all the time. I had to stand and watch for a bit. Heh.

Nothing like KTNT in the middle of the night. I got to do the DC-8 T&G during the day, as freighters fly at night, but I got to do recurrent at Bar Harbor at night.

Its been a few years, but I remember seeing a DC-10 at RIC knocking out a bunch of TnGs.

I, in a lowly PA-38, had shared the patt with 3, count them, three Hercs at a Class Charlie 9,000 foot rwy doing T&Gs. Just me and them, no other arrivals for the 30 minutes or so until I lost my nerve because spacing became problematic. Another time, I landed in trail of a flight of seven C-17s... 2 mile spacing, no problem.

Either whig out because of the 'heavy metal' or be the pilot and enjoy the show.

I sandwiched a c172 into Edinburg, Scotland at their afternoon rush hour. Airbuses in front of me, Airbuses behind me, greased the landing. Better than the Airbus behind me. I think he got to count a three-fer.

When I was based at Lowry AFB, United Airlines did continuous T&Gs at Stapleton.

IT was a rare event when one wasn't!

Well, I honestly didn't know that transport category planes routinely did T&Gs. I'm sure there's a lot less of it now because of simulator training.

As much as I like aircraft noise, I'm guessing it can be a bit much for people living near by. I'm certainly tired of stopping conversation as the local (Miami beach) banner tow planes drone along; inland, upwind and overhead. Crikey, they are loud!

We used SYR. Back in the day, the company looked for shortest flight time, good weather and low fees. Yes, my airline paid by the landing. 10 guys at a time.

That would be my guess as well. I don't know of any other civilian 707's in Florida.

Lots of military aircraft come to CHA for T&G's and practice approaches as it's fairly sleepy for a class C and they get lots of pattern and practice time.

C-130 Hercs
Whatever the new four jet engine transports are
Fighters (14's, 15's 18's SH18's)
Looking glass or whatever the white 707 thingies are
C-5's
All kinds of helos
Various flavors of T-1's
