For the Avidyne users out there...

The little rubber dust cover on my IFD 540's USB port won't stay closed. I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this problem, and am wondering what others have done to solve it.

I'm leaning towards something like this: USB DUST COVER

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts and comments.

Thanks!

How old is your unit? They have changed the style of cover and the new ones don’t have that problem. There may be a low profile dummy usb stick on Amazon that you could plug in there to serve the purpose.

That's probably fine.

I would also point out that there are literally millions of cars, laptops, and other devices that have been living their best lives for years with their USB ports fully naked and open to the breeze, so it's also quite possible that you could do nothing and never have a problem at all.

It's a 2014 unit, IIRC.

Fair point.

My 2019 unit has the same issue and has had it "all hanging out" its whole life. No issues so far.

Same issue with my 2014 IFD-540.

@Jesse Saint - If they changed the style do you know if the new style covers are available & if so how to get one? I normally keep a phone charging cord in mine anyway, but I wouldn't mind a cover that closed when I wanted it to.

Google USB dust cover. Tons of options. Pretty sure you don’t need PMA grade
