I think it's Sport Pilot that has been featuring aviation man caves in their magazine recently. Anyone on POA got one? A place where you can get away from the wife, watch some TV in peace and quiet. :D Mine is still under construction. Thought about the sectional wall thing as well if I can only find room.

I liked the Aviation Cave that Jay Honeck had in Iowa (aka his hangar) (I left off the "Man" in deference to Mary).

Ah your whole house should be your man cave.

My whole house is a man cave, I'm single.

I never much cared for the term "man cave" because it implies that the "man" who is the owner of it, has somehow managed to get "her" permission, or approval, so that he might have one. Same way with "boys night out"

The guy with a "man cave" can decorate it, and fix it up any way "she" wants.....in many cases, it is "she" who decorates the whole thing.

It becomes a showpiece to show her friends what an independent "man" she owns.

Other than that, I do like your "man cave."

Not aviation related but my friend is constructing a man cave with a hidden door. Its a bookshelf

John I agree with you COMPLETELY!!! I am married and my whole home is my man cave so to speak. I am big into cars, planes, martial arts, etc......and my stuff is all over our house. With that said he has a cool cave though.

Well I wish I could decorate the whole house in an aviation theme but guests would probably think I was a bit weird. Gotta have a normal interior design in the common areas and then a special room downstairs for my aviation obsession.

I'm also in the "my whole house is my cave" because I own it and no women live here, yet, LOL.

What's a good source for Aviation posters/prints/stuff in general? My office needs a theme like that and I do have a mahogany Hawker on my desk, and a couple Gemini diecast 737s and an A319, but that's it. Need to find some cool things to hang and maybe even put on a bookshelf in here.

I saw an old framed picture from the 1800s a few years ago, it was a landscape scene. It also had a locked secret compartment that when you unlocked it, the landscape would swing open like a cabinet door to reveal a scene of downright hard core pornography.

It was an expensive looking affair and it was easy to visualize the men making their excuses, after a fine meal, to the ladies, and then retiring to the library for brandy and cigars, and of course chortling to each other over the porn. A library, the man cave of days gone by.

Most of my stuff is just collected over the years but I've bought a bunch from Sporty's. Not their main site but the one that has aviation decor. Forget the name. A lot of my posters I took myself.

Not aviation related, but this is where we retire to for a cigar on occasion. I didn't fully appreciate the "man cave" concept until I had access to one.

I once pointed out to a girlfriend that my whole place is a man cave, and she said that in that case, it's called a bachelor's pad. The name "man cave" implies that the rest of the house is your wife's, and that's your refuge.
I'm not married so I don't know :dunno:

I get the garage, but who cares? I have nice toys to play with.

Yes! Someday I plan on getting a Vette. Maybe an early seventies model.

Those three are a 1970 LT1 with 26,000 original miles with an NCRS Top Flight, a recently restored 290hp 1958 Fuelie, and a 1965 that was restored about 10 years ago and has it all - the 396 big block, knock offs, side pipes, etc.

Had a great aviation room( office) in the house ,even had a wall of sectionals. Then I retired and moved to a condo ,lucky to have a flight bag now.

Nice cave. I Got a cabin in the woods also.

That is actually my house in San Diego, it is in Point Loma just below what is known as the wooded area. My house was built during the heat of WWII as a whore house, it was in a very secluded area just a few miles from NTC, and a whole bunch of other military operations.

When I tore up the beige carpeting that was installed in the 1950s, the oak floors had been painted bright red enamel, and the living room was half the size due to a bedroom being there originally.

The place sat empty for years before I bought it in 1984. The fireplace was put in the 1950s, along with a two car attached garage and that bathroom you see off of my bedroom.

I had to rebuild both bathrooms, the floors were rotted out in both of them. I spent years getting it to where it is now as I got the money to do each thing. It's all redwood, called single wall construction. I intend to leave this place on a gurney.

Due to its original purpose, most guys who come in sense some sort of good vibes that they have trouble explaining. I think I have the ghost of one of the ladies residing here, but I'm not sure. :D

Man John you have a real piece of history there! On prime realestate as well. Probably seen a lot of stuff flying out of North Island.

I've been around that area. Stationed at NKX for a couple years. Rented planes out of MYF and took sailing lessons out at MCRD. I miss SD. So much to see and do there.

You DO put clean sheets once or twice a year though, don't you? Or just when they're worn through?

My favorite man cave has lots of tools and machinery. Not into movies and memorabilia and beer. Just the opportunity to create or fix something.

The bed gets clean sheets every couple of weeks.....

That is a far cry from actually "making the bed" ;);)

After serving in the Army, I just had the habit of making my bed, do it every morning. I also like getting into a made up bed at night. It's kind of like a gift to myself.

I gave up long ago the idea of others doing things for me, those that do, expect to be paid for it...I like it that way...no discussions, no indebtedness to others, here's your money....goodbye, and I am not talking about hookers, just people who do work for me, like the lady who cleans and the guy who does yard work, the plumber, etc.

I'm 70, I'm done with wild ladies.....I don't miss them a bit.....not at all....not for a second...nope... doesn't bother me at all.......no sir...I'm doing just fine without them....yup.....you betcha.

While I don't have a man cave, I currently work in an aviation parts sales position, and there's all kinds of old stuff people buy for memorabilia sales purposes. I've sold 747 pax seats to a couple people and places (one barber shop funnily enough) and a lady came in last week and bought one of the TWA beverage carts to make into a mini bar for her "man cave" (is it still a man cave if a woman is doing it?). We've sold throttle quadrants and other stuff too; hell, i bought my dad an old machmeter out of a 727 for a desk ornament for his birthday and a ball compass for my car.

You name it, people call for it. One guy last week wanted to buy "a 747 to build a house out of"; another wanted an entire lavatory out of an a300 for his man cave.
