Avatar and profile pic limits

The large avatar description says it gives twice the size, 200x200 at 300k. What is the actual limit? Would any file under 300k pass? Would an image which was that was 100x400 pixels pass (same number of pixels as a 200x200)?

You can go up to any one of the limits, but you can not go over any of them. 100x400 fails because its > 200.
