Australian Skydiver chute snag (no injury)

That was amazing awareness on his part. Had he assumed it was the main parachute, he would have pulled the cut away handle. Then he would have had nothing...

I've seen this story a couple of places. No one seems to care that the jump plane pilot was faced with landing an airplane with a parachute wrapped around the elevator.

Don’t jump pilots have to have chutes?

In my experience, yes. However, I doubt that the remaining part of the reserve parachute had any significant effect on the controllability of the plane. It did not hold any shape with the suspension lines trailing behind.

The pilot only has to have a chute if there’s no partition between him and the jumpers.

Sometimes the in-flight door adds it as a condition of the STC too.

I read that yes, the pilot had a chute and thought about jumping, did have elevator control issues, but was able to land. The jumpers legs hit the stab and deformed it pretty "good".

They need a stick, to push the parachutes off the control surfaces. Think I'll design one, and make the price outrageous, of course.

Remembering that I am sitting in my office chair eating oatmeal and "Gilligan's Island'' on the telly and have a much better view of what is happening than the pilot had, when I saw the video my first thought was left rudder and slide him off the tail.

And after watching in slow motion, the jumper really slammed his shins into the tail.

I'm surprised that the horizontal stab didn't sheer off. Dumb question but could the plane fly with only one horizontal stab?

Is that a gopro on the stabilizer, too? I'm sure that's not helping.
