Emma does a great job on Flying Doodles. A new video from her demos the Aura Aero Integral R, a French aerobatic trainer. The plane is pretty impressive.

One thing that got my attention and got me thinking maybe the FAA needs to revisit an old rule. Anyone who has flown aerobatics knows if you're by yourself, there is no requirement for a parachute. If you have a passenger, everyone in the plane has to have a parachute. In this video, the instructor talks about getting out of the plane. I say "bail out, bail out, bail out" release the canopy, and then we get out. However... this plane has a full plane parachute! Should this remove the requirement for individual chutes? Honestly it might be safer. Either way the plane will be totalled.

Just what are "doodles" anyway, in the context of YouTube? I mean, ya got yer flying doodles, ya got yer sailing doodles, ya got yer motorcycle doodles, ya got yer poodle doodles...

Good point about the airframe parachute. With OSH coming up, maybe the issue can be discussed with the regulatory doodles.

Does the ballistic chute work in all aircraft attitudes and conditions? If not, then no, IMO.

I think the channel started with a guy sailing with his labradoodle dog so sailing doodles, then it branched out into flying and they kept the theme.

That dude made a bio about it a while back. Long story short, standard fail upward USA boy; rolling stone kinda dude caught the bad timing of the Lost Decade, similar timeline to mine as we are of similar age. Bunch of sketchy pt 90.5 and intl govt corruption-adjacent West Africa and ME jobs abroad, then fast forward loses medical in 2015 and didn't want to chase flying anymore. Starts the youboober thing after a real estate pivot fizzled.

His channel used to be ridealongs of airplanes, probably as a way to stay in the air, but he admits it quickly pivoted away to attempt a full time youboober "career".

The thing took a hella perv/fanservicey bend with the sailing videos, and I guess these days he's figured out having female hosts for extra engagement farming helps his bottom line. I only remember it because in 2016/17 he started filming in the tourist trap watering holes in PR, which is where I'm from, right before Hurricane Maria. I'm not into boats/marina culture, so I didn't really know the ins and outs of sailing life in the Caribbean, so watching that angle of my place of birth was intriguing. I stuck for a while to see shoreline footage of my former home. He left the area shortly after Maria wrecked everything down there, his boat included.

Like I said, the channel was otherwise rank fanservice. And then it became really a sad middle age crisis shtick, with what was clear attempts at serial dating these semi-pro ride-aboards, at which point I stopped following that train wreck. There's a subculture of female ride-aboards who sail for... expenses...and I'll get a warning here if I forego the euphemism, so I'll digress here.

If I didn't know anything about flying, his "story" would disabuse me from ever wanting pursuing corporate aviation. Alas, there's others who I think do a bit better on selling that suitcase-schlepping lifestyle; steveokinevo I think is one of the more long standing ones (his videos back about 10 years ago made me think I could carve a civilian flying future in single pilot work, though I've since waivered on the viability of this path, unrelated to kinevo I think he's got a sweet setup). Of course there's ton others in this uber saturated space, but that's uboob for ya.

i liked the cute youtube girl who was so dumb she blabbed about her struggles with depression and lost her medical then reinvented herself as a mental health advocate. it worked! never hurts to be a cute girl.

Thanks, hindsight. I suppose it could have been worse: the guy could have had a pair of Xoloitzcuintlis. Given the gratuitous T&A and overwrought drama that passes for "content" on his sailing channel, I wouldn't be surprised if his failing-upward trajectory also included an Only Fans subsidiary (another kind of doodles altogether).

Sorry to hijack (ahem) your thread, Jack. I really like the Integral R, which could almost be a lovechild of the delightful CAP 10 and CAP 20.

Sounds as if you don't know the story behind that particular "cute girl". Who's quite a capable builder, musician, and degreed engineer.
Having just "won" with the FAA, I will say I'm a homely old man, so that part didn't hurt.

regardless of her accomplishments. her thirst for attention cost her her medical. she got it back after quite an ordeal as most do who stay the medical route. the criticism isn’t of her. she seems nice enough and well intentioned. it’s a comment on the necessity of people to put their whole lives and experiences on display in public. it’s a little unseemly to me and thirsty altho it’s become the way of the world.

Name me one thread on here that strictly hues to the subject matter? who cares anyway

I'm pretty sure her YouTube channel is her full time job and she's doing quite well at it. Most of her videos are about building things, setting a good example for young woman who might not ordinarily think about a tech career.

Honestly good for her. for some of us older folks the endless flow of things where people call attention to themselves is off putting by it’s nature. do u really need attention that bad? but it works for her. lots of people like the content. it’s just not something I vibe with or respect. but she can do her videos and i hope inspire people and provide enjoyable content and i can force myself to put my apple phone down and pick up a book when i get too overloaded with web content.
