Here's the situation on FlightAware....I can follow the aircraft from origination near Wichita, KS, climbs to about 9500 about 120 mph, flies for about an hour then descends to 5700 ft where the ground is about 1000 ft MSL, and speed increases to 145 mph. That's it. No further descent or reduction in speed. FlightAware just stops showing any info. There is an airport nearby but FlightAware doesn't show it landing nor does the airport show the aircraft arriving.

Is this common for FlightAware and/or the other adsb monitoring websites?

I’d say yes, and most likely when you are flying under 1200. When you use flight following or a flight plan then those apps just assume that you landed and connect the line to the destination. There’s a lot of areas of no coverage.

What? No ADS B ground receivers in sparsely populated areas? No wai!

If you dig around on the flightaware site, you can find a coverage map of receivers. But yes, receivers tend to follow population trends and the more sparse it gets, ditto the receivers.

My home field has spotty coverage at slightly below pattern altitude. Leading to some strange tracks.

I am somewhat surprised that airports don't install a receiver. Flight Aware will supply the hardware for free. You only need an internet connection.
