Dave and I have exchanged texts, just doing this so people know someone answered him.
By the way, nothing in the NOTAMS about the parking lot being closed but you never know.
Anybody near CHD flying a 180 or 185? I've got a bag of tailwheels I've been holding on to for way too long.
I'd like to give them to someone who might be able to use them.
@Mtns2Skies, white courtesy phone please ...
I don't know where KCHD is, but I'll take one! I think it'll fit in my carry-on?
Edit: I'll PM you!
Chandler, just under Bravo South of Phoenix. Scared my wife on the way in there last time as another plane was landing on the parallel runway. "Too close" she said.
Sold for two potatoes. Thanks Austin
Btw, our plans changed.
We aren’t leaving to San Diego on Sunday.
Austin, we can give you a ride both ways and you can drive your car to Deer Valley in the morning if you like. Would save us an early-morning cross-valley trek.
But I don’t wanna rip you off of good quality time with Pilawt, either. LMK.
I heard today from some buddies that the ramp reconstruction work in front of the cafe is finished. Taxi right up in front and park.
Thx. Need to look for an airport diagram and see where this is. I've never been to this airport before.
Looking forward to Sunday!
Southwest corner; Sky Rider Cafe. There's a gate with a keypad to walk from airport side to cafe. Couple of hundred feet of walking at most.
Parking is just east of the self-serve fuel pumps.
Looking forward to meeting people there!
I have an announcement to make to all those guys at the Kentucky fly in who pm'd me warnings about Dave....serial killer...really? He's a pretty cool guy who didn't fall for my bait and switch at the bar yesterday* and is going to risk his life flying with me to Marana tomorrow. I'm even going to show him the bone yard...wait, that didn't sound right.
* I texted Dave and told him I was wearing a maroon shirt and golf hat and was waiting at the bar. (Picked out some old geezer regular who looked friendly enough yet weak enough not to kick Dave's arse if mistaken for someone else) Anyway Dave didn't fall for it. We'll see you guys in the morning.
In true serial killer fashion, I lure you in by being charming at first.
Great meeting you and looking forward to flying with you tomorrow and meeting the rest of the gang.
I promise not to post any pictures of you, so that maybe the next PoAer might fall for your bar gag.
Back home now! It was great to see y’all! Breakfast was good, too.
Another AZ airport for my book.
I loved the Starship sitting there near the runway. I recall when those were flying.
At work and it's gonna be a long shift. <sigh> Was great to see my old friends and meet the new ones. Let's do it again and not wait 3 years.
Here's some proof beyond the selfie that Jeff was at the fly-in too. It was great meeting you all! Thanks for accommodating for an out-of-stater.
Rusty's back and Jeff's front!
Great meeting you all! Thanks again to @PeterNSteinmetz for picking up my breakfast and @Timbeck2 for letting me tag along in one of the nicest Cherokee 140’s I’ve seen!
Some Pics from the flight there. We took the long way!
For those who will inevitably ask who’s who in the pictures I’ll just say, “My shorts aren’t pink, THE’RE SALMON!”
Seems that mine was not the only Skyhawk on the ramp out there at Marana today ...
While we were there Austin noticed this derelict near the gas pumps:
He looked up the registration on the side and found it was one of these:
The Google Earth image shows there's actually four Starships crammed in there among those DC-4s and other hulks.
Facebook page of the proprietor of that business. Super nice guy.
On the flight back to Goodyear, eagle-eye Austin spotted something on the ground south of Casa Grande I hadn't noticed before -- several large concrete crosses arranged in a grid pattern. I remembered hearing about something like this so I looked it up:
I would still like to find the arrows used for the mail flights. I've heard about them but I've never seen them.
Here's your guide book.
I'm sorry I missed this, but I had something else at the same time.
