Arizona/New Mexico cross country tips

In about two weeks I might be flying from Tuscon local area to KPOF (southeast Missouri) at sub-O2 altitudes. Direct line takes me across some higher altitude terrain than I’m accustomed to flying over and also some restricted airspace in New Mexico.

Any one have specific area information that would help in picking the best route? Any reason a particular route is better than another? (Independent of the wx of course)

Not looking for you to flight plan it for me, just asking if there is specific information from which a non-area pilot would benefit.

I have crossed both at the southern route through El Paso and the northern route that takes you south of Albuquerque. Both are fine for NA planes. Based on your destination, I would fly the northern route. Tucson to the Socorro VOR and then into Texas. Weather permitting of course.

TUS-TCS-ABQ-POF will avoid most of the high terrain and restricted areas, and it only 5% longer than the direct route.
