Are U.S. Anti-aircraft missiles in the hands of al-Qaeda?

Klein raised the question, due to reports today, that Islamic Jihadist militants in Yemen had shot down a Yemeni army helicopter flying over the al-Qaeda stronghold of Wadi Ubida, killing all aboard and that such weapons may now be in possession of al-Qaeda

A different threat.

I'd be more concerned if TSA had anti-aircraft missiles.

FWIW remember that OBL was our friend before he was out enemy as was Saddam Hussein. We gave shoulder launched stinger missiles to OBL and his partisans decades ago. There may still be some that were not fired. But even if there aren't does anyone really think that in the global arms business you cannot buy whatever you like?

You are more likely to die from choking on your own vomit than a terrorist attack.

Just saying.

Then we need to get the tsa into the anti vomiting business. Oh yeah twa 800. Non sarcastically there was an article a few years ago saying cough if cough obl and friends happened to have stinger missiles that they found laying around the desert the internal battery would hopefully have run down by now. Hasn't there been a few cases of large weapon stashes going missing in our recent desert field trips?

I was skeptical when I heard that story also. Batteries can’t be replaced/substituted?

While I would be skeptical that those missiles would still be effective as old as they were, I wouldn’t rule them out either.

Insurgents keep on finding them and bringing them back. In Iraq, several years back, several of our soldiers were attacked with chemical weapons that we were told were not a threat and nonexistent.

Despite soldiers having protective gear and atropine, the "no-existent" "non-threatening" WMDs hospitalized our soldiers.
