My new cubicle mate has a bobblehead on her desk. I thought it was cute. I immediately recognized the caricature and then the thought occurred to me to ask if there was any family relation considering the matching surname.

She replied that he was the great-uncle of her husband.

I happen to be an admirer of this famous person and found it ironic that the day prior I was reading something in reference to his beliefs on the cold-war "mutually assured destruction" ideology (reportedly he thought it was nuts).

As I was thinking about this, I thought about what other figures I would like to have on my desk as bobbleheads, until I realized that I thought more of them than to have a bobblehead made.

What do ya'll think?

Consider the bobbleheads of sports figures...

in other words, a bobblehead is not necessarily pejorative.

While I think they work hard at what they do to stay at the top of their chosen game, I wouldn't consider them worthy of desk space to look at every day.

I think of having a bobblehead as a person that I would want to emulate for their character or significant contribution. Then theres the pejorative caricature question...
I thought this thread was going to be about our Congress.

Perhaps if this were posted in SZ (LoL)

The bobbleheaded beach blond comes on at five/
she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye/

I had Cal Ripken, Jim Palmer, and Earl Weaver bobbleheads (giveaways at the ballpark) on my desk at work years ago, and they now grace the mantelpiece over the fireplace in my living room. Nothing pejorative intended there, I assure you, and given my well-known and somewhat rabid Oriole fanship through good times and bad, nobody at the office ever thought otherwise.

Now, as for my Peter Angelos dart board...

They certainly weren't made to be. Fun, humorous, entertaining, but not intended to be insulting. Then again, anyone can make a mountain out of an ant hill.
