Lots of mishaps lately. Yesterday evening an Archer rented from an FBO at my home base (KFCM) landed on a county road about a mile south of my home (about 6 miles from the airport). I suspect that fuel was in short supply (based on reports from sources I cannot disclose). And when that same airplane was refueld and launched from the road today the pilot found the airport closed due to an accident involving a MIG-21 being flown in for this weekend's Air Expo. The story I heard on that was that the plane needed the help of a drag chute to land on the 5000ft runway and the chute detached from the plane prematurely preventing the pilot from stopping on the runway. One witness opined that the plane was still going 100mph when it left the runway. AFaIK the nosegear collapsed but the pilot was unhurt (beyond financial issues).

You'll have the only Archer with a MiG kill painted on the cowl?

Standing in the FBO at LIT, I watched another Mig go into the bushes enroute OSH a few years ago. Amazing amount of dust, smoke, leaves and branches flying around the south end, pilot uninjured other than wallet.

This happened Tuesday morning (I believe, might of been Monday):

CHEYENNE -- Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to a non-fatal plane crash just west of Cheyenne off of Happy Jack Road around 7:19 this morning.

According to Gerry Luce with the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, the plane was a Cessna 188 that had been contracted with Laramie County to spray for mosquitoes in the area.

Luce said the plane apparently collided with several power lines due to its low altitude.

The pilot of the plane, 38-year-old Michael Childress of Nortonville, Kan., managed to pull himself out of the wreckage and was found alert and walking when paramedics arrived on scene.
