It's been a while since the release of the Apple watch.

Now that there's been some time in service, does anyone have any PIREPS?

I am liking mine, for tracking my activity (not much) and mostly for staying in touch with my office via text when I am not there it has been great. Battery holds all day with no difficulty.

which version did you go with? I cant bring myself to pay the 549 plus but am seriously considering the 349 one. Any difference you saw in them?

I got the 42mm black sport band and then purchased a metal bracelet band from the secondary market on amazon...cool band works excellent $37.00.

I didn't really look at the sport model that close.

I can't answer your question, but might be interested in the answer.

Although I generally like Apple's products, I haven't worn a watch in years. I'm not sure that I see the wisdom of Apple entering the jewelry business, especially with a piece of jewelry which is dependent on carrying an iPhone (which is largely the reason why I don't wear a watch anymore.)

I get the "fitness" aspect of it all, but I don't need an electronic device in order to stay fit.

I suppose that perhaps the evolutionary product will enable independent, voice-controlled functionality that will supplant the smartphone, and then it might be of more interest.

With Apple releasing "the next best version" nearly every year, I am also curious as to how this cycle applies to the Watch. Does version 2 appear Q1 2016? Or will existing one stay the course for a while.

They are already talking and leaking specs for the next version. I'd say definitely by Q1 if not sooner.

I expect the next Apple Watch to be similar to the present one but with a little bit more battery.

All of the watches are functionally the same. The stainless and gold have a sapphire crystal. It is tougher but more difficult to read in bright light.

I like the ability to triage text and notifications. I have an email VIP list so i only see email notifications form a few people. If you want a pretty watch that reduces the times you pull your phone out you will be happy. If you are looking for a tech toy that you will play with for hours at a time you will be disappointed.

Here is a cut and paste form my comments on another forum:

I've had mine for several weeks and it is growing on me. I set up a VIP list on mail so I only see mail from key clients and a few others. Message triage has been better than I expected. A lot of times a simple YES works fine. The hands free phone feature I expected to be a gimmick but it is actually useful for when your hands are full. The information shown by configuring complications is nice. I love Apple Pay. Battery life has been a non issue. Build quality is superb and the sizes are well chosen. Easily changing bands is a great feature. Digital Touch is great but only if you have someone who sends LU text messages during the day who also has an Apple Watch. Workout and health aspects are nice.

As far as notifications, they need to be managed but that is easily done. I added CNN and a lock TV station and have found the number of breaking news reports are reasonable.

Dark Sky is nice in that it tells you when it is about to rain.

On the downside it isn't as good as an old watch for telling time. You can't just glance down. You have to move your wrist or touch the screen. Also, I wish there were more watch faces but I expect those to come in the future.

Apps are slow. For aviation, ForeFlight is unimpressive but Aerovie Reports is much better. Still, speed or lack thereof is a problem. Native apps are coming in the fall so this area should improve greatly. WatchOS 2 looks like a big improvement.

The sport band is very comfortable.

Directions are a useful feature. While driving from DFW I had my iPhone in a cupholder so I could get it quickly to see my route. I found my watch was displaying distance to the next turn. The taptic feedback let me know whether it was a left or right turn. Once I go used to it I found it very useful.

In summary, not a must have but nice.

Here are some more general observations. Women seem happier with it than men. Techies get disappointed. It isn't like the day you got your iPad where you play with it all evening. It's a watch. Non-techies understand that and appreciate the messaging and other aspects without demanding it entertain them constantly. Thus my girlfriend loved hers from day one. I was more on the fence and have slowly come around.

My wife bought me one for our anniversary. She saw the Sportys aviation hype. It's somewhat overrated, but I like it. Not in love with it.

They're the biggest way to point out suckers and sheep.

Wow, got to love forums. I post some comments trying to help the original poster and get called a sucker and a sheep by someone who has never met me and doesn't know anything about me.
