A friend sent me a link for a you tube vid and it won't work on the iPad. She said there is an app that makes them work. First I've heard of it, but I'm technically challenged :).
Any of you know what it's called?

Some videos are not allowed to be played on mobile devices such as the iPad, AppleTV or Android platforms. There may be a work-around with a secondary app but I am not aware of any.

Ok, so I wonder why her video won't open
Can you open the link from a computer? If not, then the link is probably mistyped.

Do you get an error message of any kind when you attempt to open the link from your iPad? It would help if you would post that error message (or exactly what happens when you click the link) here.

Yes, it opens fine on a computer. When I try to open it on my iPad it just says
"Could not load movie"

You have reached the limit of my expertise. But my friend Google may be able to help.

I found this link that goes into detail about the problem: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/16609/can-every-youtube-video-be-played-on-the-ipad2

The most significant cliffs note I have from that link is that older youtube videos may not be encoded in a format compatible with the iPad.

Some video formats like wma (Windows Media) and Adobe Flash are not supported by Apple. They want to force everyone to use one of the Apple formats. It is one of my frustrations with Steve Jobs and Apple. The iPad is a homerun now, but if they would support these other forms of media it would have been a grand slam! I've heard there are other web browsers you can download that will play Flash but I have not tried them yet.

Ah well, it's no biggy, I watched it on the regular computer....

My son downloaded a web browser named 'SkyFire' that will play Flash content. It has an iPad and 'desktop' mode. The desktop mode will play the flash content.

I did. It's not listed
That's what happens when the video is supported on desktops but not mobil devices. My expereince with this has been copyrite issues. When there is music in the background the copyrite holder of the song will say "Allow people to play this song on their desktops but no mobile devices." So if you use that song in your homemade video you are forced to abide by the copyrite. It's crappy, but those are the rules we have to live by. Thus when you go to search for it on a mobile device it does not show in the listing.

Your point is valid howerver, that has nothing to do with YouTube videos and this issue.

iSwifter is great. Forgot about that in my first reply.

Photon works reasonably well for viewing Flash sites, but less well for Flash sites with interactive content, such as the POA chat room.
