I see that the Apollo GX 50 is a discontinued product from Garmin. What is the availabilty on updates? I understand it's approved for IFR non- precision approach operation but .......and here I am back at the update question.

It was a question to start off but I did get through to Garmin. After getting handed off a few times I did get a number to call for a data card update. Good to know they are available, I couldn't find anything online. At least the service folks seemed very nice and they got me pointed in the right direction.

Gary,

Glad you found an answer. I have a GX60 and use Jeppesen's Skybound to program my own card.

The databases have been getting bigger over the years, so if you have a 2 MB card, it won't all fit. I got a 4 MB when I sent it in for repair a few years ago.

And speaking of repairs, Garmin no longer has (or didn't do a lifetime buy of) parts to fix them. I've heard it's the screen. So, they're offering rebates for GX-series models toward a 400W/500W series unit through the end of the year. I'm still on the fence...

Hmmmm...that gives me some food for thought. For now baby steps, I need to close the deal so I can have a panel to upgrade!
