ive got one on order, should be here in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone has installed one and how it went.

Did it pass the flight check on the first try?

Seems like owner installs are a miracle in less then an hour. Most A&P’s seem to get it done in 4 or there abouts.

A&P’s I’ve spoken with find underlying issues to solve to get it done right. Sample size is small with less then 5 that I know of. Very likely a few that can just bolt it up and set it up do so, and those with “issues” once they try bring it to a mechanic.

Anytime something is replaced on an old plane, seams like some hidden challenge is discovered.

If someone were to donate one to me, I bet I could do the install in an hour! It's a bet!

I actually saw a Tailbeacon this weekend installed on an original Hawker Hurricane. It did not look right.

Well, at least that puts to bed this common aspersion on here that uAvionix customers are all the pauper, 'eyesore' participants of the hobby.:D

If I owned a Hawker Hurricane, be assured I would have to raid the local food bank on a regular basis to eat.

Looks like a growth on the back.

Nothing like having a $1900 part at chest level & quickly detachable with a screw driver.

Yes, having it waist-high at the wingtip is FAR more secure....

Actually, the unit is set up via a wifi interface, and there's a password. If someone were to steal mine, they wouldn't be able to get it out anonymous mode (hence couldn't do the airborne test) or get the light to come on (the picture above is during initial testing; I disabled the light via the wifi afterwards). That's presuming that uAvionix has more than one password to assign units.....

Passwords are unique to each unit both wingtip and tailbeacon. If you steal it and install it on your aircraft it will be very easy for anyone to track you.
