A friend wants one, and I told him that you guys discuss them occasionally. He would contact seller directly, no broker involved.

Tim winters is/was looking for a while, he might know what's out there.

Wayne there was a Twinkie for sale at KLOM. They recently took down the bulletin board there for renovations but I'll inquire if you want.

If he is serious about a Twinkie, I'd highly recommend having him join the ICS (www.comancheflyer.com) and post over there. Alot of good info to be had on what to look for and of course, what things to avoid and they may be able to point him toward a good one/experienced A&P....etc.

Like alot of planes, Twinkies are awesome.....IF you do the due diligence and find a good one. If you don't.....stand by to regret your purchase.

Bah, he should buy an Aztec. ;)

Thanks, I'd appreciate the info.

I owned one for a while, should have kept it. Instead, I let my partner talk me into an Aerostar for which he had the hots. No bueno.

Ive got a friend who has a real nice one for sale, Ive flown it many times. Low time engines, props, clean airplane, fairly recent paint,Garmin 430, Shadin FF for both engines, etc. I copied and pasted a link to this thread to his email as he is not a PoA member and suggested he join and respond to you directly.

Thanks.

Kent used to know of every Twinkie for sale in the lower 48. He has some fabulous posts about the different variations.

If you had a good one, you definitely should have kept it!

I got my ME rating in a Twinkie and truly loved flying that airplane.

You guys are killing me. I love twinkies but I think we are talking about two different things. Can someone please explain the difference between a twinkie and a twinkie?

The first rule of Twinkie Club, is that you don't talk about Twinkie Club.

You need to talk to Kent. He usually knows about every cherry Twinky currently for sale in the world.

I thought he might rise to the bait.

Sorry Wayne, not paying enough attention to PoA lately! Troy emailed me a link to the thread.

I guess the first thing to consider is what options/mods he wants on it - Many of them are no longer available, thus you need to buy a plane that already has them.

So... Turbos? 200hp engines or any of the other Miller mods? R-STOL?

Tip tanks can still be added, but they're expen$ive so better off to buy a plane with them if he wants them. Generally 90 gallons without and 120 with, though there have been several tank mods as well (38 gal wet wings, 20 or 40 in the nacelles, 10 or 20 in the baggage compartment, etc.) so you can't always tell by looking what the fuel capacity is.

The good news is, there are quite a few Twinkies for sale and the prices are pretty good right now, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a good one. Sadly, it's also way too easy to find ones that have been sitting for three years. :(

He's interested in a nice one, turbos and other goodies are on the list of possibilities. Got a list?

A list? Well, not right at the moment...

Personally, I'm somewhat partial to the combination of turbo for long-range efficiency and speed, and the R-STOL mod. It gives a nice combination of capabilities.

On the Twinkie, the R-STOL adds dorsal fin, stall fences, leading edge cuffs and flaperons; reduces Vmc and Vyse by 15mph to 75mph and 95mph respectively, and cuts ground roll for takeoff and landing to less than half of a regular Twinkie.

The only such equipped one for sale right now is this one: http://www.airplanemart.com/aircraf...on/1966-Piper-PA-30-Turbo-Twin-Comanche/4386/

However, this very nice one is (once again) for sale, though it's (again) overpriced - IMO, there is probably no Twinkie worth more than $120,000, though this one does at least have a case: http://barnstormers.com/classified_594666_1966+Turbo+Piper+Twin+Comanche.html

FWIW, I saw that one for sale a couple years ago, it was living in California at the time.

Now, there is one other plane that could make a case for being worth more than $120K but not nearly what they're asking for it - $250K! http://barnstormers.com/classified_627429_Robertson+Turbo+Twin+Comanche.html

Crazy! But if you've got the money and you're into that sort of thing, great.

I could be here all night... But a better idea would be to narrow things down further. Wayne, how much does your friend know about Twinkies? Any further preferences?

Is it possible to add 2 seats to the older TC?? or are you just stuck with the 4 seats, as-is??

I'm pretty sure that the A-models are stuck with just 4. They don't have windows for the last two seats even if you could get seats in there, so not exactly the best ride for the pax back there!
