Looks like it was one of the trainers. The description on the radio puts it along runway centerline at the bottom of a hill.

Apparently 'engine truouble' and this happend while returning to the airport. All we have around the airport is trees, and swamp, and swamp with trees.

Wow, they did well. I wonder if he settled it into the tops of the trees at stall speed.

Put the nose between the trees and keep flyin the plane until the crash is over and crash slow. Looks like that's what happenned. I'm guessing he impacted just before full stall. I'm saying good job. Unless he like ran outta gas or sumpin because he didn't check the tanks. Or some other preflight item. Then one Aw Sheet cancels all Atta Boys

Wings look like they had STOL kit installed. You can tell by the stall fences on the top and the leading edge droop.

Looks like after the impact with the trees, it fell tail-first into the ground. Lots of nice thin aluminum there to crumple and absorb the energy, but possible whiplash concerns.
