We had some fast moving storms move through last night. Lots of lightning and wind. Saw some photos of marina damage at Eagle Mountain Lake... the core of that same cell moved right over Fort Worth Meacham (KFTW)... check out these METARS:

Word on BT is that some hangars collapsed at Mecham, took some planes out.

Uggh! The comment the Beech owner made was heart rending.

Straight line winds blew down a hangar at Texas Jet FBO at Fort Worth Meacham tonight. Actually, it lifted the hangar up off the ground and moved it downwind about 100 feet. Several planes were pushed into each other. I Corvalis was pushed up under my left wing. Fortunately no one was hurt. There were about 15 planes in the hangar, including several jets, King Airs, a pistons. It looks like sheet metal roofing (or siding) and insulation fell on the plane. It's hard to tell how bad the damage is at this point, but I fear the worst.

Some of you may remember my two year saga meticulously restoring this plane. It was a labor of love, but I doubt I'd go through that process again.

Who parks planes like that?? Someone should fire that line boy!!

Wow...that's rough. Hopefully the damages aren't as bad as the photos make it look. I guess that what insurance is for, right?

Talked with a biddy who hangars his 1968 A36 on the southern end of the field. He said he got lucky and there is no damage to hangar or plane, but that there are other areas that are a complete mess.

ATK and Bell Helicopter also had hangar damage. ATK is south of the main terminal, and does government work outfitting aircraft; their damage appears to be minor roof damage.

But just downwind (south) of Texas Jet, the Bell Helicopter hangar has significant damage, with the main doors blown down on top of a Jet Ranger, and the winds went through the hangar and ripped the back of it open too.

I just got back from a quick lunchtime airport visit... pictures here. The Texas Jet hangar is on the tarmac side, so I couldn't get any good pictures of that. I didn't want to get in the way of all the important cleanup activity.

Side note: I love that you still have a Texaco sign and it survived.

BP finally replaced ours here with their god-awful one, and I was sad to see the sign of a much stronger brand and company die.

Still have all my die-cast Texaco airplanes...
