Anxiety... Should there be a problem?

Let me make a long story short... I'm 20 years old right now. By the time I'm going to be taking my third-class medical I will be 21. When I was 16, I smoked marijuana which was laced with PCP (not knowing that it was laced). Anyway I ended up in the hospital because of the negative effect it gave. Hospital's diagnose was "Anxiety" or "Panic Attack". Anyway I visited a psychologist couple of times and it went away. I know that I shouldn't lie about not having any history of this and I should tell the truth. How do you think getting my medical will turn out for me (including third, second and first). I heard that I could address the question to Dr. Bruce on this website but I don't know how. If anyone had similar experiences or has suggestions they will be appreciated! Thank You!

I would NOT worry about it and certainly do not put it on your medical. Unless you start having anxiety over it! :hairraise: Seriously, you were not treated for depression, suicidal tendencies, drug abuse, alcoholism, DWI or convicted of a serious crime. Chalk it up to youthful experimentation, and don't fly high. (Pun intended :goofy:)

I'm not a Dr., JMHO.

I would answer the questions on my medical truthfully. As far as I know, in your case, the PCP and marijuana mention is not going to be needed to be included in an answer, but the hospital visit is and you may have to get a statement that you don't and didn't suffer from anxiety which may mean you need an appointment with a psychiatrist.

Wow. This is a hard one. Use my email from this site. It's turned on. :)

I'm sorry I'm new to this website and the whole forum thing... and they won't even let me register here because they can't approve an account with my yahoo or hotmail email and I don't think I could 'private' you an email (if that's what you meant... without having an account here)... maybe I'm not getting something here... I could use some help

You should still be able to register, you'll just need to follow the directionson the front page:
If you are relatively new to Pilots of America and can not post, please go to the Registration Problems forum and post a request for access. This step is necessary for members who registered using a known free email service, as an extra step to prevent non-human registrations.

Doc, hope you dont mind the annonomous post here, but I created a bit of a firestorm the last time I posted on this forum. If a person has used recreation drugs a time or two and has NOT had any visits to the hospital over it do you think it (Or anything else the FAA could never verify) should get reported. I know the FAA has "tightened the belt" recently . Also, just out of curiosity (And no, I am not a drug user) what does the random drug tests that airline guys go through check for ? Thanks

Don't lie to the FAA. Period. It's too easy for them to find out you lied, and if they do, you're done flying forever. And the fact that you had medical treatment associated with this event makes it more likely that the FAA will eventually find out. In addition, you'll carry this guilt around forever if you don't get it off your chest. For example, if you ever want a job that involves a polygraph, this knowledge in your head will peg the needle somewhere along the interview. Better to work with a wired-in AME like Dr. Bruce to get this taken care of properly so you don't have to spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder.

Ron's advice applies to job interviews too, and especially security clearances. You'd be amazed what can be accepted as long as you are honest.

Specially when it starts out, when I was 16 I was stupid... I'm older now and know better. I wish I had never done XX...

Missa, we should swap "young and stupid" stories some time - it would be fun. And in a decade or so Ted can join in.

Don't believe what Grant is spewing... I was never "young and stupid"! I was the good little nerd girl in the corner who only got trouble with her parents for staying out to late playing D&D in a friends basement. I do like listening to them but I didn't have enought courage to do the "young and stupid" stuff.

The worst mine gets is I cut class one day with a boyfriend and some of his friends we hung out at this girls house and watched a porno which since I was a virgin at the time made me really uncomfortable, but I would only cut 5 of 6 classes because I had an improtant presentation in 6th hour. The only other time I even missed a class not due to illness was on the offically sanctioned Seinor Skip day.

Ted actually has better "young and stupid" stories then I do.

Missa

That's correct. I was responding to Missa's "..I was 16 I was stupid..."

...Somewhere in Western Kentucky, a yellow three-speed Schwinn bicycle, with home made RATO (rocket assisted takeoff) packs that held eight "D" size engines on either side of the frame, hangs in a small tree in the middle of a small creek. On one side of the creek is a rotting wooden ramp. Near the tree in the stream bed is an impression that looks remarkably like my 15-year-old body...

The only thing you needed was a video camera so you couldda made Maximum Exposure.

I have lots of good stories... they just are not my stories. :( I was too much of a goodie goodie for that.

Now I'm too old and would be held responsible for young and stupid stuff.
