First clue. This picture wasn't taken from an airplane (or any other air vehicle).

"Freezing" is another clue. This place is beautiful in the summer but nasty cold in the winter.

But I guess that covers many places too.

It's amazing how alike many parts of the country can look.

Have you ever noticed when droning along on a X/C it seems like you're stationary as the landscape scrolls by? Of course, it's an endless loop and if you go far enough you'll be asking questions like, "Hey, didn't we already pass that aprt?"

A recently revealed secret is there are only 4 real aprts in the country, the others were built out of bamboo by the Chinese.

Right country, wrong province. "Nasty cold" definitely brings Winnepeg to mind! I don't remember Winnepeg having this many trees, though.

Here's a view looking the opposite way off the hill...

Souix Lookout Ontario.

Is that one of the Great Lakes in the background?

Well it's not an airport I've ever visited but I have three guesses.

CYEL
CYZE
CYEM

Is it any of those three? If so I wouldn't be able to say witch one, I would only be able to make another educated guess.

It's not nearly so obscure a place as those three, none of which I've ever heard of before.

Here's a picture of the associated city, also taken from the hill.

Ah, Quebec City. Beautiful.

Mais non! I think the residents of this city would shoot you for thinking it was in Quebec.

Trying to think of more clues. OK, how about if I start singing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"?

It doesn't look like the Soo, the land is in the wrong place. So I'm guessing Thunderbay.

Oooohh. Ouch.

I say Sault Saint Marie (CYAM). The graphic Flightsoft has of the airport appears correct. Best guess and it is close to Chippewa(from the song)

Yay! Here's to you. :cheerswine:

The airport is CYQT Thunder Bay, Ontario. I guess I gave it away with "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" since there are only two cities on the Canadian side of Lake Superior.

I am on top of Mount McKay which you can drive halfway up then hike the rest of the way.

Thanks to everyone for their answers!

I will try Deluth,Minn. The land is so familar where my dad grew up in the UP of MI. Iron Mountain or Hamilton. If in CA Sunbury looks like the spot.

You were really close. It was Thunder Bay, Ontario. You must be familiar with what the land looks like up there. I'm used to seeing mesas, but not ones that are covered with trees like the ones up there.

I did spend some time up around there. It is so beautiful to see all the trees and lakes. Great amphibian country. Spent the night in Thunder Bay many years ago on a trip on Highway One. What is so amazing is as you drive west toward Winnipeg the land changes from the Mesas and Trees to the Plains in a very short time.

The photo brings back some really great memories of that area. Thank you.
