This is spooky news. If The FAA wants to close some airspace because the military is firing anti-drone lasers, I won't be too upset. Beginning to think Iranian sleeper cells isn't such a crazy rumor.

Hopefully there is a plan in place to eliminate the threat. How does one differentiate between a true threat and a prankster.

I think the "multiple waves" and the fact that they used command and control signals that were resistant to the USAF's jamming capability is all the differentiation I'd need.

All the lasers are in the southwest, shooting down party balloons and friendly aircraft.

I'm inclined to think it *is* just pranksters. If you'd planned to attack, you wouldn't want to alert the defenses. The Japanese didn't send a flying boat over Pearl Harbor to take pictures prior to December 7th.

Surely Google Earth gives you enough data for target selection, and if nothing else, you can pay for civilian satellites to shoot the area. This is either some group of kids having fun or some older types wishing to embarrass the government.

:) Only if they said they were going to land, then didn't land, then were going to land, then did a low pass but didn't wave, and then put it on youtube.

Well at least we weren't stupid enough to start a war with a country that's spend a few decades working on them, and has exported them for use in combat since around 2022.

I kid, I kid, we'll be fine.
 
Maybe someone could send a memo to the bad guys and ask them to paint them orange.
 
Exactly. Long time ago I was at a club meeting of a place that mostly did sporting clays and such. One guy was being annoying, someone else said "Bill if you don't knock it off, we're going to paint you orange and stuff you in a thrower." Harmless insult, as I think Bill was too wide to even fit into the little thrower building.

Targeted. If I were in charge of Taiwanese invasion planning for the People’s Liberation Army, this exactly where I’d fly drones.
