Ok the threat title was a little joke to be the anti-Nick and have a little fun :D:D

The reality is that there is a malware issue floating around on the Android platform right now.

In our annual Malicious Mobile Threats Report, report, Juniper found a 400% increase in Android malware from 2009 to the summer of 2010. We have since seen exponential grow in Android malware over the last several months. The Juniper Global Threat Center found that the months of October and November are shaping up to see the fastest growth in Android malware discovery in the history of the platform. The number of malware samples identified in September increased by 28% over the number of the known Android malware samples. October showed a 110% increase in malware sample collection over the previous month and a striking 171% increase from what had been collected up to July 2011.

According to the article the main reason for this outbreak is because of the lack of controls in the Android application market.

Hackers, scammers, and virii writers typically go after the most popular devices because they are the widest available. We see this with Windows products too. Why waste time on something that only has 2% of the real market.

Apple iOS has a little under 30% of the market, it is not a trivial size of market share. But Apple does handle apps a little different that helps to prevent malware from being distributed through their store. That difference is why this is not as much of a problem on the iPhone.

It's getting worse - The article you quoted showed a ~500% increase in a year - Now it's done that again in 5 months! From an article released today:

Malware targeting Google's Android mobile operating system exploded in the last several months, its volume quintupling since July, Juniper Networks said today.

Gee, all I have in my pocket is a dumb phone...
As far as I can determine there are no malware apps to infect it...
I feel so left out...
