A Republic RC-3 Seabee made an emergency off airport landing on a Phoenix street Sunday afternoon. There were no serious injuries, but the lil' guy is a bit worse for the wear.

Sad. One of my favorite planes, and would love to fly in one. Glad everyone survived OK

“The plane hit a water main during the freak landing,”

I suppose that’s why the landing gear was retracted.

Glad everyone survived OK

So by definition it was a good landing.

Thank goodness it was Sunday because 7th street is madness on a weekday. I used to work in one of the buildings seen in the video where it stopped.

My first reaction was, "ET?" He lives across the street from me, but then I remember his airplane isn't yet put back together (we did help him put the wings back on a few months ago).

He flew over my house a few days earlier. I remembered since they're pretty rare.

Glad he came in ok, no injuries, and missed those power lines.

Took me a second to realize that hitting a water main is a different thing in Phoenix than Albany. If you hit a water main here, the plane probably won't be recognizable as a plane afterword.

This video shot from a GoPro on the right wing shows how few choices the pilot had to make a safe landing. Check out the smoke escaping from the engine just before it stops running. He handled it like a boss.
