Lest we forget......

"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one.

Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking."

-- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

And let us not forget what President Eisenhower said, when leaving office, about the military - industrial complex! He sure was right about that!

We have already covered that. Anyone who got paid by the taxpayers for almost all of his adult life really is just playing politics knowing they and their class of friends will always be taken care of, when they say stupid crap like that.

He didn't turn down any of the fancy dinners put on his plate. Even in-theatre.

What an absurd ignorant reply. His entire speech when retiring came true. Of course his service time especially during WW2 probably made him ignorant of what he spoke of. He was dead right!

Thanks for posting that, Dave.

Hope all is going well for you.

Miss you Dad.

And he also was a master politician who knew there were plenty of them enjoying their nice breakfasts on nice linen throughout the system he oversaw for his term as President.

It's about as silly as believing Warren Buffett saying he should pay more in taxes while knowing full well his contemporaries will never allow that to happen.

Just makes him look good. He isn't going to send a check.

Are you so naive you still think these people are doing anything in politics for *your* benefit?

Ike was just saying that stuff to start the next round of mud-slinging as the two fake "opposing" political "sides" of the day needed to switch gears, as the voters swapped sides.

Both Parties knew then, as they know today, that without keeping up the fascade of them being at opposing goals, they don't get their money, power, or their massive perks.

Paid for by you. And me.

Once the War was over, and he couldn't be driven around in Cadillacs in Europe with his mistress/"personal assistant" anymore, Ike grabbed the brass ring of professional bull-****ters. The Presidency.

Nothing like being a rear-guard war hero to get a debutante to the White House. The War interrupted his Bridge Club and drinking binges with old friends.

Americans love manufactured heroes. See: Every President in my lifetime. No significant accomplishments, backgrounds whitewashed and hidden, mostly business failures, and always excellent liars with natural charisma.

Ike was no leader. He just kept SHAEF from imploding on itself by keeping giant egos all equally unhappy.

- Homey failed peanut farmer. Lots of rich friends.
- Hollywood actor still on stage. Lots of rich friends.
- WWII fighter pilot, wealthy connected family guy. Lots of rich friends.
- Backwoods hick lawyer who dabbled in illegal real estate schemes with a winning smile. Lots of rich friends.
- Doofus kid of WWII guy above, apparently got a Texas accent in Maine where he grew up. Dad's connections. Lots of rich friends.
- Doofus kid who went to Harvard and was so bad at it, no one can know how bad. Indirectly connected via dad's friends. Lots of rich friends.

Are you seeing a pattern here? Charismatic fools who were in the right place at the right time, bankrolled by others orders of magnitude richer who they already had rubbed elbows with.

Now go all the way back to Ike... Same ****, different decade.
