All fun and games until someone gets hit by jet wash.

Alchohol may play a factor, since there is a bar to the side of the approach ,a few cocktails and the thought process disappears.

Damn straight! My wife and I have visited St. Marteen multiple times. The sunset bar is always packed and "loaded" with the daring. Sandblasting your skin off your body is not my idea of fun, but watching them do it is!

A couple when I was there..

My wife and I went to St. Martin for our honeymoon specifically to go to this beach. She's not a pilot or anything, but we both (literally) got a blast out of it. If you stand directly behind the fence you'll get punished with the sandblast, but that's why many folks wear sunglasses or goggles. We hung out in the water where it was still exciting but not as dangerous. Nothing is quite as cool as seeing that KLM 747 come in 50 feet above your head while you're floating on the warm Caribbean water.

For all the time I was there I did not see anyone get actually hurt by the wind, and I also didn't see anyone who looked surprised. It's pretty obvious what's about to happen, and people seemed to stay back and observe a few takeoffs and landings before approaching the fence.

Here's my favorite photo I took (attached):

I showed up with a long sleeve T, cheap safety glasses and a bandana mask. People laughed, I was last man standing though, some ran pretty quick.
