Alaska: The ‘largest aviation system in North America'

To help spread the word and put Alaska's travel picture into perspective, the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has created its own map of the United States. On it, Alaska is superimposed on the Lower 48. The map illustrates Alaska's geography: the 49th state spans 2,000 miles, or from Los Angeles (Attu) to Tallahassee, Fla. (Ketchikan).

Just lookin' at that map - it's hard to tell, is Alaska really bigger than Texas - I fear the projection is somewhat misleading.

Yes, but think about that. I fear that level of popularity would serve to prohibit or at least reduce the amount of training to become a pilot. Look around, do you really want to share the skies who those you see on the roads?
I doubt even the amount of training currently required would effect a change in perception especially when you get all those yahoos screaming about their right to travel.

TX is about 40% the sfc area of AK.
