Approaching Dusseldorf, I saw an airship and managed a snapshot. They aren't so common that I can see them from above, generally. We were in the clouds when I saw it.

I saw the Blue Angels from that angle today over Alliance, but couldn't get a photo. Pretty cool. The Goodyear Blimp was over Dallas last week, too.

Nice picture. They used to, and perhaps still do, fly into Solberg in NJ so I saw them often from the air there. At that time, I was still learning to control the airplane so no pictures from then.

No markings. Interesting. I wonder if that is the Navy's blimp, or who flies it.

I wondered too. Maybe it is brand new and hasn't gotten its marking yet?:dunno:

As near as I can tell, the airport is near Essen. Does the new Zeppelin company, ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH, have anything near there?

Looks like the Navy's blimp isn't flying. I wonder who would have one unmarked like that. That's be a cool toy.

No, but WDL operates a blimp out of EDLE (Essen-Mülheim). See http://www.wdl-worldwide.de/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3wOb4XkVO0

The blimp was destroyed during a storm last year (see http://www.derwesten.de/staedte/muelheim/luftschiff-chefin-durch-und-durch-aimp-id10230313.html) and they just rebuilt it (had to replace the entire 'fuselage').

They have a huge hangar for the blimp at EDLE. The following photo is from 2012 when I went to EDLE with D-EAKP (
