why is it called landing gear? I mean yeah it helps to land but it also helps to take off. (Sort of rhetorical question) But my husband asked me and I couldn't think of anything witty to say in return and am hoping one of the PoA'ers are funnier then me.

The space shuttle only uses them to land... :D

Let me change that to "Used"

The Wright brothers originally only used the "landing gear" to land. They used dollies for the takeoff for a few years.

If it bugs you, call it an undercarriage. Then it'll be easier to remember what GUMPS stands for.
