Opinions on. . .one or two seat airplanes, low wing (no bipes), "fun" positive G aerobatic capable, very, very good vis, preferably a canopy airplane. . .x-ctry about 350 miles max legs; experimental or factory is O.K., but under $75K (else I'd just buy a SF-260!).

Have studied up on LongEZ and RV-4; Emeraude looks fun, if slow and hard to find. Plenty of Sonexs around, but are they under powered? And non-aero engines a negative?

S-LSA alternatives - any good options there? Moving one of those to experimental sounds like a winner; just haven't heard much first-hand about which are best of breed.

RV4, maybe a short winged glasair (RG of course) with the largest engine you can afford.

Obviously an RV-4 but also RV-3, Midget Mustang, Thorp T-18, DR-107/109. Shop carefully.

Nauga,
with plans

Avions Robin R2160. There are only 12 of them in the US, but overall the fleet is around 250 planes. Standard airworthiness certificate. A couple of years ago, I sent a post-card to all the owners looking whether someone was ready to sell. Got one reasonable and two unreasonable offers.

Scottish Aviation Bulldog. Iirc they have to be experimental exhibition which limits what you can do with them.

No bipes? This has to be a troll attempt.

How about a clip wing cub, clip taylorcraft.
There are a few certified designs that would fit your bill, bonanza for one.
Glassair, lancair, some of the crummy spam cans(rv), a few of the rans designs. There is no end to a list of decent experimentals.

No room in my soul for another high wing. God love the bipe lovers, but I ain't one. . .

The VarEze fits your needs very well. 1000 mile legs on 33 gallons of fuel (auto) acro but G limited. 0-200 very we'll known dependability and they are well under your budget. I have one for sale cheap.

Zero knowledge - but I suspect it's above my skill level (think RV-4ish)?

The Staudacher is a unlimited aerobatic airplane with a 540. It is nothing like a RV-4. The Staudacher is on the performance levels with the Edge, Extra, MX and the other unlimited mono planes. It is tube and fabric with a wooden wing. I am told the wing was stressed and plus and minus 20 g's and didn't break. Jon Staudacher is a awesome guy! He is still building awesome wooden things. He was a wood hydroplane boat builder before the airplanes. The Staudacher is a gentle easy to land airplane.

I sat in one, and a LongEz, and the Long was a better fit - still well up on my list, but the idea of taking a S-LSA to experimental is intriguing; another POA member clued me in to that recently. . .
