airman datebase?

If you have passed your medical, you should be in.

:yeahthat:

If you ever got a student pilots license/medical, or ever held a pilots license, even with a long since expired medical, you should be on there.

Depends on your search criteria. Some people have the address with held so if you search for someone and put too much information in they won't find it. Just have to put last name and first name.

The FAA steadfastly refuses to obey an order of congress and allow people to opt out of appearing in the publicly accessible database (at least on their own site). Actually, every once and a while they get it right, but usually they don't. I've been after them since 2000 to get me them to obey their exemption to the privacy act and remove my listing. All they've done is remove me from the info that they send out to other people (such as landings.com) and delete my mailing address form the FAA website but they still list information that:

1. They have a federal mandate to allow an individual to opt out of disclosure.
2. They display the sensitive medical information (such as who has Special Issuances) that they have NO BUSINESS DISSEMINATING TO THE PUBLIC and is NOT included in their exemption to the privacy act.

There are a few people who are well connected enough politically to get full removal (certain celebrities are no longer listed), but the average person the PRIVACY ACT was designed to protect are ****ED ALL OVER by the FAA airman registry.

I requested not to appear in the public database and I'm not there. At least not on a simple search. My wife is, so it's not like the search parameters are wrong. Nonetheless, I was public long enough to end up on everyone's aviation mailing list.

Are you doing so on the FAA site (not landings or some derived site)?

I requested not to appear in the public database and I'm not there.
Same story for me. I opted out via the FAA site years ago and I never get aviation junk mail except from Sporty's where I have purchased things. I know people who have downloaded the database for local mailings and I never appear on their lists either. I guess YMMV but it worked for me.

To answer the original poster's question, not everyone uses the same name for everything. There was no medical ever written out to John Denver, for example.

Lots of famous aviators can be found in the FAA database for airmen.

Look for Charles Lindbergh, Charles Elwood (Chuck) Yeager, Amelia Mary Earhart, James Harold Doolittle.

It's kind of fun looking for them.
