AIRCRAFT MUST RE-REGISTER -

Well, let's look at the NPRM

"These amendments respond to the concerns of law enforcement and other government agencies to provide more accurate, up-to-date aircraft registration information."

"Law enforcement agencies rely on the registration database when investigating improper activities such as drug smuggling."

"This program continuously draws registration information for combination with other data, satellite feeds, and radar to develop a display of the national airspace complete with the registration status of each aircraft that is operating on a filed flight plan. Using this information, appropriate safety, security, and law enforcement actions can be initiated. The development of the ADAPT program and other safety- and security-related programs demand an accurate database."

hmmmm
So? Law enforcement can already track you if your airplane is registered.

I think the most of the pushback against this plan is for two reasons. It's something different and most people don't like change. Not to mention that it's being proposed by the FAA and the government, and no one ever thinks they might have a reasonable idea.

The only possible positive benefit, and it is a minor one at that, which I can see as a result of this excessive officiousness, would be that it might reduce events such as the Martha and John fiasco of earlier this year. However I believe it has been shown even that could have been avoided in other ways.
This new reregistration of aircraft plan is simply a money grab - or at best, satisfaction of an obsessive/compulsiveness.
