Air-to-Air JetEZ @ Oshkosh

So the day before the photo shoot was hectic. The EAA gives the flight briefing, so even though I never met this pilot, I was confident that he had been briefed properly. So there I am over Oshkosh and the photo pilot asks me what an EZ Jet is. I laughed and told him I had no idea. It turns out the owner calls it a JetEZ and he sure looked like a fighter pilot with that helmet and F-16 looking canopy.

Maybe he was referring to one of these. ;)

Is it just me or does that plane look silly with the fixed wheels? (Beautiful pictures as always!)

I've seen EZs with luggage pods, but I'm assuming on this bird, those are for fuel...?

Rob and Valerie Harris covert Long Ezes to this configuration up in Covington, Tn. Spruce sells a DVD on canards that gives more specifics on the conversion.

How many have the hidden?

Hidden??? Have no idea how many they've converted. They're the ones who did the well known Greg Richter (Blue Mountain Avionics) Cozy conversion years ago. His aircraft and factory used to be down the road from my work. Essentially it was BM vs Dynon to rule EAB avionics world. Dynon came out on top and BM went bankrupt. :(

You said they coverted them so maybe they were stealthed?

(Yes, I realize it's a typo. Just struck me as funny)

Oh, meaning they started out as piston EZEs and then converted them. Like taking a Malibu and converting it to a Jet Prop.

My old hangar neighbor had a Cozy jet (similar). At the time, it was the only flying copy (out of 4).

He donated it to the Rutan museum.
No, he sold it to Ryzard that thinks he has some kind of Rutan museum but not really. https://www.rutanaircraftflyingexperience.org/

He flies it now, saw him at Reno last year. He blew a landing and overheated a brake which, since some of these guys insist on the flammable brake fluid, caught fire and burnt the gear. He's soliciting donations to fix.
He's working with the guy that built it in TN. This one was built some at the same shop then in Florida then back to TN to finish and fly. Seriously burns fuel!
Yes, looks dopey with fixed gear like ours. Others being built are full retracts.

No, the Harris' are no longer and Robert never converted anything except maybe the Cozy jet. They are no longer EZJets but The Jet Guys.

These are called Valkyries and built from scratch. Here's this one in the early days:

Interesting. I still see Frank now and again, though I see his brother more often (at the hangar). I was just repeating what he told me. Sounds like there are a few more flying than he said, too.

No more Cozys that I know of. But I think there are a couple other jet canards overseas. Not sure what airframes.

??? Robert Harris is the one who runs The Jet Guys. Same company, same place, just a new name.

They did do Greg Richter's Cozy which started out life as a Mazda rotary engine. While they build from scratch, they also CAN convert a stock EZ to this config. In the vid, Robert has two stock EZs that are being converted to jets. Said it actually takes more time to convert vs build from scratch. They currently have 4 jets in their shop in various stages of work.

Well, the last of my air-to-air shots I took for the EAA made the magazine this month. Can't wait until July to get more!

Jack, do you continue to maintain your print-selling shop? The selection there is rather lacking: neither Berkut nor Carlson are available.

I haven't really. I was looking for another website. I'll add a few soon, including yours.
