I few weeks ago I posted photos with this young man, Hayden, flying Lockhart Flying Club's Warrior. He was excited when I told him I was coming back to shoot their Cherokee 180. This time his Dad and his former instructor joined him. Fun day!

I'm curious how you brief the formation flight for the photoshoot, since presumably a fair number of the pilots haven't done it before.

I start off by sending them a link to my Briefing Page and asking them to read it. It has a video and some good tips on what to expect. Then when we meet up in person, I do a full briefing in person. I use the same photo pilots all the time, so they know what to expect of me. I talk the subject pilot in, moving them into position slowly, then I basically feel them out. How do the react to what I'm telling them? Are they making smooth control inputs? 95% of people get it pretty quickly. Since I do work with a lot of people with no experience, I like using my 182 as my main photo platform. This means that even though I have a photo pilot flying for me, I'm also sitting at the controls and can act quickly if needed.

EAA just put out a pretty cool video showing some of what we do behind-the-scenes. EAA Photoshoot
