This article relates the story of Lyle Prouse, a NWA pilot that was arrested, convicted, and imprisioned for flying a 727 that carried passengers while intoxicated.

It's a good read. It tells Prouse's story, and discusses the early days of the HIMS program. I think @bbchien and the POA membership will find it interesting and informative.

I got my Air&Space copy in the mail a couple of days ago and read the article. Seventeen rum and cokes just a few hours before a flight with 58 passengers aboard is pretty irresponsible, but I'm glad he was treated and able to return to the cockpit. It's a worthwhile read.

What surprises me is that the FAA agent - informed by the bartender - reminded the crew at the gate about the 8 hour rule, but allowed them to take off. Two hours after the flight was completed, Prouse's BAC was 0.128.

What a great read...thank you for sharing that.
