AI Rebuild

My AI gyro started to act up. Sometimes the AI would show a 20 degree descent even though I was straight and level. Sometimes a turn again when I was straight and level. So I decided to have the thing rebuilt. I looked around for one with a vacuum flag but could not find just the right one. But the one thing I forget to really inquire about was how much a rebuild costs. I am assuming it is going to be less than the new one.

Anyone have an idea of what the average cost is?

I replaced mine outright. After FBO/A&P install fees, it was $1000 +/-, that being 3 years ago. A significant portion was the install/uninstall. I think I also got a lighted unit.

I have two of them in the plane, one RC Allen, the other SigmaTek. The RC Allen has failed twice, needing replacement.

Avoid RC Allen.

As I recall, I priced a rebuild vs new, and the cost difference wasn't justified for a rebuilding the vacuum instrument.
