Looks like the FAA is moving towards using AI for traffic routing.

I am very familiar with Palantir. I did some consulting with them way back when they were a small silicon valley startup almost 20 years ago. I got options that I held onto all these years, so I'm rooting for them.

I think I preferred AI winter to AI eternal September. Can we go back and rebrand ACAS-X as using "AI" because it used Markov decision processes?

But seriously, good for Palantir. Too bad they're a Java shop :stirpot:

GeorgeC,
now with more MOLECULES

Cool story about Palantir. When they hired me as a consultant in 2008, they brought me out to Palo Alto to familiarize me with their product. Their HQ was as physically close to the Stanford campus as you could get. They shared the building with a growing business by the name of Facebook.

Math's largest linear algebraic formula.

~10,000 variables in ~20,000 extended equation format. I wonder if the matrix is invertible?

Just wait till the aircraft type is put in wrong. Arrow climb to flight level 410.

Maybe this will be a great thing for the airline world, not so much for single engine piston aircraft.

Yeah, and then I can see them deciding that flight training flights aren't predictable enough, so they exclude them from zones to try and protect the AI routed airliners. Same for my photography missions.

This should be fun when Palantir learns that the weather doesn't give a **** where you thought that airplane could go.

A thousand likes!

Or, "We're are getting light chop, could we try flight level 280?" "Sorry, Palantir only checked for traffic at flight level 300."

I'm a big believer in automation, but to probe for traffic and hour away and deconflict? It can be done, but the accuracy (or lack of) will severely impact efficiency.

or, after an aircraft type entered incorrectly and said aircraft manages to fly slower than the (incorrect) type allows, the AI "learns" a new limit for the type.

I hope it's better than the GenAI that Hegseth has ordered the DOD to use.

Our IT folks just an update on GenAI capabilities that included this warning:
Important Note: With all that said, anyone who uses generative AI for their workflows should use caution and double and triple check their results as generative AI models are prone to "hallucination", meaning it can just make up results (even when you give it data, they can and will make up numbers in place of the numbers you provided) and report them as fact.
