I knew amphibious aircraft can land on water or on land... but I was not aware that you could lower the gear (AFTER, or course!) after you land on the floats, then taxi up the boat ramp and to your hangar. That's cool.

I'm officially jealous.

And is it just me, or does one of the people on board sound an awful lot like me?

Me too. I was looking for information on the Carbon Cub EX from CubCrafters, and that's how I found that video. That'd be a rough way to have to fly. :D

I asked someone with a lot of experience with all types of Cubs - real ones, Super Cubs, Top Cubs, you name it - about the Carbon Cub. In his opinion, it was almost too light. He likes the more substantial feel (that being relative, in a Cub) of the Super/Top Cub, without yielding dramatically in the performance department. I thought that was an interesting observation.

As for me, I think the Carbon Cub is pretty awesome, and I would not refuse one in my Christmas stocking.

Of course, I'd love to have any flavor of Cub show up in my stocking.

Thinking about it a little more, though - the Carbon Cub on floats is a pretty good idea. More substantial feel, less performance hit.

Sign me up, Santa.

I've heard that there is no difference between the kit-build Carbon Cub and the LSA Carbon Cub except for who built it.

The LSA, obviously, has a 1320lb MGW and a 5-minute limit on full power (in fact, max continuous is only 45%) which is what keeps it LSA-legal (120 knots max).

The kit-build has a MGW of 1,865 lbs (unless you limit it to 1,320), and should theoretically do 142 knots at 75% power.

Okay, I want one now.

Man... The only problem is, they're EXPENSIVE!!! $145K for the kit-built equipped as I'd like it, and somewhat north of $200K for a similarly-equipped LSA. Yikes!

Or you could go with this.....

http://www.cubcrafters.com/inventory/N9796P

and get every optional piece of equipment that it is possible to put on a cub and one of MY 180 horse Lycoming engines.

note the 2300 # max gross weight increase. :).

WOW - That's a heckuva nice airplane - And you could put two of me and lots of luggage in it.

But $196K? Sheesh, you can get that spiffy new Carbon Cub with a similar panel for that.

But then you would not have a real supercub.

Been doing that for years, nothing new....... Many Seaplanes do this.

That's cool! I just never saw it or knew they could. Funny, too, as I lived in the Seattle area and hung around the Kenmore Air seaplane base... guess I need to go to Alaska!

Agreed. Why does this happen? Is it the pitch forward from the forward momentum of the plane as the wheels act as a fulcrum when they touch the water?
I am guessing that is the biggest reason it pitches nose down. It is also possible that just as wheels hit the water it sets the floats nose low too and that helps 'trip' it. I does happen fast so full back pressure on the yoke won't do a darn thing. IMHO. :dunno:

Looks like a real nice plane too.

Ben

Have you seen Kent?? An older used Cub would be a nice golf cart for him.
:ihih::ihih::D:D:D:D:D

Hah! No, I have a few hours in Cubs. Yes, even a J-3. Yes, with someone else aboard!

I like the performance of a Super Cub, though... But if I had $200K to blow, I wouldn't spend it on one airplane. Heck, that's enough for a nice Twinkie AND a nice taildragger! :)

If you have to fill the fuel tank with a teaspoon, I don't think the time counts....
