Not sure where to post this, mods move elsewhere if need be...

Probably chasing a unicorn, but here goes.
I've been trying to think of a unique Christmas gift for my son, and had the idea of buying him some time in an aerobatic ga plane with CFI.

He's an Air Force pilot, finishing his assignment as an IP for the T6-A, is also fighter qualified. He loves doing aerobatics in the T-6, thought it would be cool to get him into something like an Extra 330 for some fun. Obviously needs a CFI inside as he's not licensed for GA at this time.

Located central FL. Anyone knows of a place in this area where this can happen?

Yeah Patty has a whole school down there. I think that would actually be a pretty easy thing to pull off, especially in FL.

He could talk T--6 with Patty too, she was the company T-6 demo pilot for several years.

Unfortunately she's a 3-1/2 hour drive away. Did find a guy (Brian Kuell) with an Extra 300 that's less than 1/2 hour from me at KLAL, waiting to find out if my son needs AF approval for this before trying to book some time.

Thanks again for the feedback and Merry Xmas all!

Yeah, but having flown with Patty would probably be worth that drive…

Interesting what the AF says. Let us know.
Kinda like a NFL quarterback riding bulls in the off season. AF has a lot of money tied up in your son.

Back in the '80s, during primary (T-37) training, they told us not to fly anything else. We were expected to concentrate only on procedures for that plane. I never dreamed flying could be so regimented.
Several of us flew privately on weekends. Not a big deal when it was done discretely.
A little aerobatic experience is great before military training. The Air Force doesn't so much teach aerobatics as they do unusual attitudes. Loops aren't round, but flown to minimize turn radius at the top. All rolls were positive G barrel rolls. Nothing brought on negative G's. My instructor once admonished me for doing a 4-point roll. It wasn't in the syllabus.
The T-38 world was much more satisfying. Do you know what your son will be flying?

If he is finishing IP tour, he is rated (has wings). Should be no prohibitions against anything GA
