121 guy here wondering if anyone has navigated this process since the change and could give advice. Short story
1.Wife hit me with a divorce notification, took it very hard been together since high school.
2. Stopped flying went to doctor he said I was having anxiety from this adjustment and prescribed a non benzo anxiety med- took it for less than 30 days
3. Durning this wife saw how bad this messed me up (guess she thought I be happy?) and we worked everything out.
4. Been couple months now no medication all I should need is a doctors letter with all 8 bullet points and I should be good? Plan to use a Hims AME. No prior diagnosis of mental health in my life.
Questions for those a lot smarter than me.
Is it 60 or 90 days off med?
Is the letter all I need?
Can a Hims ame issue in office or should I expect it to be deferred? I’m motivated for whatever it takes. Flying military and civilian since I was 18 so it’s all this old guy can do. Thank You

(3) yes, if the doc is able to say, "to my knowledge this is his one and only event in his entire life.
It's 60 days for psych meds, 90 for stimulants.
To your (5) , yes if you can document exposure was <25 1/2 weeks, (3) above, and if your doc has all EIGHT items on the list.

Doc I know you have talk about this before but the Rx was Buspirone is that going to be an issue? I wish I would have done some more research before starting it but hindsight 20/20. Would it still fall under 60 days off? Used under a month

In future, if at the doc and he’s talking a medication, pull up the FAA medication database on your phone and type it in and see what it says. My doc would prescribe anything, so I have to be careful, and nowadays they love to say people have anxiety but no one ever described what the feeling of anxiety was, just using the paper form asking if you had trouble handling a situation. I’m having trouble when it’s 105 degrees outside, does that mean I need a pill?

It’s important to feel and understand your emotions too. Anxiety is more of that deep chest pain + overwhelming, but it’s also a very natural body response asking you to work on yourself. It can be a beautiful thing and minimized if fully understood.

Glad to hear things are on the up for you, take care. bbchien is the right one for your Q&A’s.

Yes. Buspirone....any of them, are 60 days off, documentably by the record.
(Man, that is like getting out the blue elephant gun to get a grouse).

Why an elephant gun? Sounds like the anxiety was pretty bad. Not a much bigger stressor out there than divorce. As opposed to other anxiety medications, at least this one is not addictive. The SSRI's and SNRI's are weak sauce when it comes to treating anxiety, so with respect to effectiveness, side effects and addiction, this one is probably still the best out there.

Buspirone was marketed as a antipsychotic. NOT for Anxiety. Same marketing as for HALDOL.

Thank you doc. I was just confused with some guidance I’ve seen. “If stable, resolved, no associated disturbance of thought, no recurrent episodes, and psychotropic medication(s) used for less than 6 months and discontinued for at least 3 months – Issue”
Also on the fast track you see off medication for 2 years now.
So I was just confused
