Ack...city life
I caught a feature on Modern Marvels which reported on the use of adhesives in different industries. Something I didn't know is 3M now has a glue designed specifically for steel frame construction in building residential homes. Use of the adhesive instead in place of the usual nuts & bolts results in a significant labor reduction. If that wasn't enough, the joints are stronger in the SE fastening schedule is followed.
So why not aircraft? Now that it is possible to join metal with a 2 part air- or UV-cured adhesive do you suppose the FAA would even consider approving this? I bet DoD is already using this.
