Hi all, have an issue I'd like more guidance on. I've begun the process for my third class medical that has been deferred for some kidney issues that will likely be no factor for an SI.
During this waiting period for this, a doctor has diagnosed me with ADHD and prescribed medication. Tried taking it for a month or two but just didn't see the benefit. Worried this will affect my deferral, if I even disclose it to them

You're damned straight it's going to affect things (and yes, you will need to report this). ADHD medications are an outright denial. Even if you legitimately stop, you're in for a tough slog.

Who diagnosed you? I find it unconscionable that non-psychiatric trained providers will casually throw yout diagnoses and prescribe drugs "just to see if it works." These are the same clowns that have to change all four tries to fix the flat.

You reset the clock, likely in a really bad way.

Also, “have you ever….”

I wouldn't think he "reset the clock" if he was only on them for a month or two. Surely, the doctors in OKC are going to take into consideration that he was only on them very short term.

A psych evaluation will definitely be required.

"Tried taking them for 1-2 months. They didn't really do anything for me. I stopped taking them."

@bbchien would probably have the best insight.

He was waiting on a SI already, now he has to prove the diagnosis he had wasn’t correct - ADHD regular track.

I swear parents that ever think their new borns are ever want to be pilots should have a AME consult before getting pregnant.
The line can be very fine between an ADHD diagnosis and not, seen it myself, from a distance. Some get upset if I try to play doctor, so I won’t. Did we even have ADHD back in the early 70’s?? Maybe drinking out of the garden hose worked as a preventative to ADHD?

Yep, we had it - they called it "ADD" and before that it was "boys will be boys".

Like most things in the DSM, I think eventually we'll call it yet another spectrum and hopefully it won't be instantly disqualifying if you're on the lower end. I've been getting fed ADHD content on social media services recently (I have a, um, "energetic" and sometimes difficult three-year-old and "they" seem to have figured that out) and it seems like there's a zillion different symptoms and based on what they say I could diagnose just about anybody I know with it to varying degrees!
