"Adequate separation exists"

When tower tells you this cause you're sharing the runway with another airplane, is that based on controller discretion of adequate distance or aircraft type and actual hard requirements?

I've gotten this message a couple times in the last two weeks for airplanes coming in behind me, where they'll have me roll to the end of the rwy (7500') since my parking spot is right there.

They have a number. I guess technically they sort of swag if it actually exists at the moment, but it’s a hard number.

For two single engines, I think they only need 3000’. I know at the airport that I used to fly out of, they had orange cones on the side of the runway

It’s a hard number but they can use anticipated separation. In some cases (helicopter) visual sep is used as well. Wake turb is a whole other deal in itself.
