Got a large number of addresses (excel format but can be munged into any format). Anyone know of a tool that will take the addresses and place them on a map? If google map does this, can I import a large number of addresses or do I need to type each one individually?
 
I've used http://batchgeo.com for demos before. For full featured maps (with more locations than BatchGeo allows for free), I've written code using the Google Maps API.
 
Send me a sample (15 to 25 lines), I might have something that would work... But need to run a trial or two to perfect the technique.
 
If Mike's existing solution doesn't work and you need some help let me know.
 
And excel sheet (or google sheet) is fine.
 
Google has an app too, called Google Fusion, used it class about 3 years ago, haven't heard much of it since, it does what your looking to do, which is map addresses

Edit: it will also allow you to import from a current Google sheet, or another document, or create a blank one
