So a friend has his Commercial ticket with ASEL, AMEL, and Powered Lift. Instrument rated.

He also has his CFI with Powered Lift and Instrument Rating.

He would like to add ASEL and AMEL, but the Additional Rating Task Table on page 21 of the CFI PTS doesn't have a column for Powered Lift.

How is he (or the DPE, for that matter) supposed to know what areas of operation he is supposed to be evaluated on in the practical exam?

I believe "powered lift" refers to those half parachute/half airplane contraptions.

According to the FAA:

Powered-lift means a heavier-than-air aircraft capable of vertical takeoff, vertical landing, and low speed flight that depends principally on engine-driven lift devices or engine thrust for lift during these flight regimes and on nonrotating airfoil(s) for lift during horizontal flight.

According to the rest of the world, basically an Osprey or Harrier. And maybe some other stuff still in civilian R&D.

i would guess if there is no table he would be required to cover all areas listed for ASEL or AMEL, which ever he is testing for first.
